Preston Spurlock

Preston Spurlock will perform at OJ All Day Upstairs Sunday May 25, 4:00pm

Born and raised in South Florida, Preston Spurlock has been making lo-fi bedroom records for eight years. He started making a name for himself in the NYC arts community in 2004 by playing nervous, oddball songs on a Casio SK-1 sampling keyboard. His influences range from post-punk and polka to avant garde composition and novelty music. Preston's idiosyncratic lyrics involve cryptozoology, sleep, death, anomalous historical events, and his own morbid fear of becoming senile.

Besides performing solo, Preston is also a permanent member of the groups Huggabroomstik, The Elastic No-No Band, Don't Enroll In Public School, Mango Glaze, and Old Hat. He has also performed live as a member of Schwervon!, The Best, and Kung Fu Crimewave, and has contributed to recordings by Urban Barnyard, Dan Fishback, Dave End, Andrew Phillip Tipton, and Simon Beins of The Wowz.

When not making the musics, he’s also a visual artist, animator, and short filmmaker. His credits include the cover art for Cheese On Bread's album "The Search For Colonel Mustard" and accompanying "Samurai" 7", and music videos for R. Stevie Moore, Huggabroomstik, and Jessica Delfino.

"Urban Folk" says:
"With synthesized raw energy, he sings profoundly about frogs and alligators, brings you weird psychological landscapes, and may veer into death metal. He's known to kick instruments around and completely reinvents 'Hotel California.'"
